Perceived burdensomeness, but not thwarted belongingness, mediates the impact of PTSD symptom clusters on suicidal ideation modeled longitudinally

Studies examining Posttraumatic Stress Disorder symptom clusters, suicidal ideation, and variables described in the Joiner's interpersonal theory of behavior were cross-sectional. We tested whether relation between clusters ideation is mediated by perceived burdensomeness thwarted belongingness (variables behavior) military personnel with current using longitudinal design. DSM-IV model reexperiencing, avoidance, numbing, hyperarousal was used. Structural equation modelling used to test separate models for each cluster a at baseline, month 1 belongingness, 3 controlling baseline values variables. Analysis direct non-mediation showed that reexperiencing (p = .08) avoidance .07) marginally predicted ideation. The mediation analyses indirect effects from through 1.
